I understand that therapy is a financial investment, and the details of insurance plans
can be confusing. I’ll do my best to help you understand what it all means and be as transparent as possible.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes, I currently accept Aetna, Optum, Oxford, Oscar, United Health Care, Cigna, and Horizon BCBS of New Jersey. For all other insurances I am an out-of-network provider.
What’s the difference between in-network and out-of-network?
In-network means Amanda is a provider who participates with the insurance company and will be covered under your specific plan benefits. While most insurance companies cover mental health treatment, benefits vary by insurance plan. Alma or Headway will contact your insurance company to verify your benefits and provide you with a good faith cost estimate prior to your intake session.
Out-of-network means Amanda isn’t partnered with that particular insurance company however many insurances do provide coverage for out-of-network providers. We can provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement. Please inquire directly with your insurance company about whether or not you have out-of-network benefits.
Should I inquire with my insurance about my coverage?
Yes, you should call the number on the back of your insurance card to inquire about your benefits as well. It is important to understand the details of your coverage.
Some helpful questions you can ask your insurance:
- What are my mental health benefits?
- How many therapy sessions does my plan cover?
- Do I need to meet a deductible before sessions are covered?
- Do I have a co-payment and what is the cost?
- How much does my insurance pay for an out-of-network provider?
What is a superbill?
A superbill is a receipt for your sessions that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement at the end of each month. From there, your insurance company will directly send you a reimbursement for the amount your insurance covers.
What are Alma and Headway?
Alma and Headway are third-party billing platforms that make access to mental health treatment easier through your insurance plan.
Is there a late cancellation or no show fee?
Please remember to cancel or reschedule 24 hours in advance. You will be responsible for the full session fee if you provide less than 24 hour notice for a cancellation. I reserve a recurring session time exclusively for each client that is hard to fill last-minute without notice. I understand that certain events may come up unexpectedly so I will do my best to reschedule your appointment, if possible, to avoid the late cancellation fee.
What forms of payment do you accept?
Prior to your first session, I ask that you put a credit card on file in my secure payment system. I accept all major credit cards. At the end of each session, your card will be charged.
Do you offer sliding scale fees?
I understand that financial barriers to needed treatment may arise and want you to feel comfortable speaking with me about these barriers so that we can develop a sliding scale payment plan to begin or continue treatment.
