Couples Therapy
Many couples face challenges in their relationship at some point, and it can be difficult to know how to address those challenges. In therapy, the couple will have the opportunity to explore the challenges they’re facing in a safe and supportive
environment. They will also learn communication and conflict resolution skills that will help them to have difficult conversations and disagreements in a constructive way.
During the process of relationship therapy, it’s not my place to judge or to take sides. Through structured and solution-focused interventions, we can work together to develop the skills to create a connection that is meaningful and fulfilling. This method focuses on the couple learning and practicing new skills that will allow your relationship to be the best it can be.
Adult Therapy
It can be easy to feel overwhelmed and stressed in life with the many pressures that we endure daily. Therapy can help provide support, guidance, and coping skills to help you manage whatever life is throwing your way.
Before our initial session, I will schedule a brief phone consultation (about 5-10 minutes). This call is a great way for me to get a better understanding of what is bringing you to treatment, answer any questions, and review scheduling and fees. If we feel that my areas of expertise and approach aligns with your needs, then we will schedule an intake session. During the intake we will explore your concerns and discuss treatment options for the sessions to come.
Family Therapy
Family relationships can be difficult to navigate. When tensions are high, it’s hard to find common ground to alleviate the strain. As well it’s rare that we have been taught effective and healthy communication skills which makes expressing ourselves and compromising with family a challenge.
Family systems therapy focuses on the entire family as the client, rather than individual family members. Because families are interconnected systems, problems can’t be sufficiently addressed
by treating the symptomatic members only.
The goal of this therapy is to resolve a problem that negatively impacts the entire family in some
way. This type of therapy can be beneficial for families who have experienced a major life event,
such as a move, divorce, or death of a loved one. Family Systems Therapy allows the family to
work together to identify underlying issues, effectively communicate, and develop a plan to
resolve conflicts.
Parent Support Therapy
As I tell all of my parenting clients, children do not come home from the hospital with an instruction manual.
While parenting can be rewarding, it can also involve many difficult moments that leave you frustrated and overwhelmed. Parent Support therapy provides a non-judgmental space for parents to process specific challenges with their children and learn individualized strategies that can assist them through the difficult moments.
Because all children are different, my approach to parenting support therapy is as well. My certification as a Nurturing Parent clinician helps me to provide parents with guidance to create change, growth, and confidence in their role as a parent.
I provide parents with psychoeducation to help them better understand the cohesive
family system. As well, I help parents who want to tap into the deeper parts of
themselves in order to explore how their own childhood experiences may be impacting their parenting. I also work with parents to provide tools and strategies that support the family as a whole to create an individualized behavioral management program.
Child & Adolescent Therapy
It’s easy to see the physical changes that children experience during development,
however some of the most important areas of growth such as emotional, social, and
cognitive skills are less discernable and therefore not as easy for parents to assist their children with. When a child struggles with social or emotional challenges it can
significantly interfere with their overall well-being and impact all areas of life.
Is your child struggling with academic performance, social interactions with peers, or strained relationships with family?
I work with children (ages 5-12) who are experiencing big emotions such as worry,
anger, sadness, trauma, and grief due to life circumstances, as well as behavior issues
such as defiance and rebellion or a lack of executive functioning skills such as
impulse control, time management, organization, and memory.
As well I treat tweens (ages 10-12) who are struggling with challenges such as
overwhelming emotions, independence, identity, self-esteem, fitting in, and rebellion.
I start by providing a consultation with parents to gather basic information as well as the parent’s concerns, observations, and goals. Because each child’s unique with their own set of strengths and challenges, during the second session I continue the
consultation with a diagnostic evaluation of the child to thoroughly understand their
therapeutic needs. Based on the information gathered during the two-session intake, I will create an individualized treatment plan that I share with the parent and the child
can then begin evidence-based treatment to overcome their emotional and social
challenges. I believe that in order to be most effective in helping, it’s imperative to
establish a supportive partnership with parents, and when needed, with schools as
well. Some treatment modalities I use with children are Cognitive Behavioral
Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Art & Play Therapy.
